Lunar Love

Lunar love, moon above me,
you pull my heart and you pull the sea,
like you I can only shine,
in the light of hearts brighter than mine,
Cast your first stone if you dare,
down with your light and your judging stare.

Do the stars speak of me?
Will you ever see?
Your pull that moves the tides,
it pulls on me

your not the only one with a dark side,
a place to run to, a place to hide,
I know your lonely up in the sky,
I feel it when you cry,
Is there no one for the moon above?
someone to hold to, someone to love,
your need for love is what I share,
Someone to share life with,
Someone to care

we are two lost souls,
shining on the world,
searching for a love that will never be

Rattlesnake

Well I left you in the arms of your mother dear,
needed that open road to pull me through,
like a rattlesnake I warned you, "Stay the hell away"
My poison will drop you to the earth

My engine is roar'n
It's fueled by my rage,
will i make it home to you?
These four wheel keep turnin'
I pray they roll my blues,
into that big'ole Denver sun,
I'm on the road

The smell of sage and dust rise with every mile,
my broken heart drops at every turn,
the horizon holds those mountains and I pray they never come,
and their purple haze never fades away

my petitions to the lord vanish in the wind,
they'll never make it to the sky,
and i know my lies have twisted like the branches of our tree,
where we'd run and share our broken dream

Painted Roses

So you want to know true beauty?
You want to make this garden home?
Come with me
I'll show you all you must do,
And who you’ve got to be,
You're ashamed of your petals of white,
They're your curse from God,
It's hard accepting yourself,
When pale is wrong and red is right

She don't care who you are,
You don't look the way you should,
She has come to paint you red,
She's painting all the roses red.

There is something you should know,
She will cover all your faults,
So wear the mask of beauty,
Let her paint cover your troubled soul

She'll paint you red when your confidence is fading in the wind,
Paint you red when loneliness becomes your only loyal friend,
If you think you're pretty, she'll still paint you red, she'll paint you red.

Dust Altar

The dust of El Centro finally settled down,
an empty nest, a mother weeping near her dying hound,
a father in seclusion, he's making peace with God,
his ways are hard, his ways are old, his ways are slightly flawed

Bell runs out to the haystacks in the field,
she screams, "I will leave this hell, its offered all that it could yield,
Maryn went out west and she writes of peaceful lands,
I can no longer eat out of my father's broken hands."

Like a ram caught in the sticks, like the grace of God,
one day you'll give thanks for the dusty altar where he damn near took your life

Papa keeps on prayin' he's desperate for his kin,
he screams high into the heavens, "God please let my children in!"
Bell stays up late, she says, "I just can't see,
how a righteous man will work his days and never live free"

Brother sends down curses on the blood running in his veins,
he says, "I am Abel, wanderin' the streets with my brother Cain"
A ghostly spitting image, of his father's sturdy brow,
Ain't it funny how we despise those that we can't live without
